INFORMATION ABOUT BRITISH COLUMBIA
Capital City: Victoria
British Columbia is Canada's
westernmost province and one of North America's most mountainous
regions. Because of its coastal location, it is considered a gateway
to the Pacific and Asia. It is also bordered by the province of
Alberta, the Yukon Territory and several US states, including
Alaska. BC enjoys a relatively mild climate, with crocuses often
blooming as early as February. BC continues to attract Canadians
and foreigners alike: 40,000 people settle in the province each
year, and its population now exceeds 3.3 million. Vancouver,
the largest dry cargo port on the Pacific Coast of North America,
is home to 1.5 million people, which makes it the third-largest
Canadian city.
BC has a wide range of climates
from a mild coastal climate to the heat of the interior which
ranges to cool, snowy conditions in the winter. Students are advised
to select a location with a climate that they will enjoy.
In "Beautiful British Columbia" you might want to take advantage
of the province's world famous skiing conditions -- Whistler mountain
is the number one ski resort in North America. A lover of the outdoors
is right at home in this province and can explore the multitude
of activities that are available: hiking the West Coast Trail, river
rafting, swimming, biking and canoeing. Visitors will also enjoy
the splendour of Victoria's famous year-round Butchart gardens.
Whistler Mountain is the number one ski resort in North America
and host of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
